Various Therapies Shown Below

Each month, our young heroes will attend sessions designed to help them harness and master their unique superpowers. Here’s what a typical month of superhero training looks like at the Neurodivergent Hero Academy:

1. Superpower Discovery and Focus Training

Music Therapy (2 sessions) – Hyper-Focus Lair

Superpower: ADHD and ASD Heroes’ Super Focus Beam

  • In the Hyper-Focus Lair, heroes will engage in music-based activities that strengthen their ability to focus on specific tasks while activating their creative powers.
  • Session 1: Heroes will experiment with different instruments and rhythms to channel their Super Focus Beam, learning when to power up for school tasks and when to power down for relaxation.
  • Session 2: They will compose their own superhero theme songs to boost focus, using music as a tool for concentration. Badges earned: Master of Focus Badge.

2. Precision and Flexibility Practice

Play Therapy (2 sessions) – Puzzle Master Challenges

Superpower: OCD Heroes’ Superpower of Precision and ODD Heroes’ Super Strength of Will

  • Session 1: Heroes will tackle intricate puzzles and games that test their precision. They’ll learn how to channel their attention to detail into fun, brain-teasing tasks while practicing flexibility when facing tricky challenges.
  • Session 2: Heroes will participate in role-play scenarios that challenge them to switch between tasks and develop problem-solving skills. Flexibility Force Fields will be activated to encourage taking breaks and trying new strategies. Badges earned: Puzzle Solver Award.

3. Strength and Leadership Training

Occupational Therapy (1 session) – Hero Leadership Camp

Superpower: ODD and PTSD Heroes’ Super Strength of Will

  • This session helps heroes develop the leadership skills they need to guide their peers on important missions. Heroes will engage in task-based challenges designed to help them lead their team while practicing self-control and collaboration.
  • They’ll learn how to inspire others using their Super Strength of Will while making sure they balance their power with empathy and teamwork. Badges earned: Super Leader Medal.

4. Superpower and Body Awareness

Somatic Therapy (2 sessions) – Calming Capes & Hero Sensory Lab

Superpower: ASD and PTSD Heroes’ Super Awareness

  • Session 1: In the Calming Capes session, heroes will practice relaxation techniques to calm their heightened senses. Breathing exercises, mindful movement, and calming visualization activities will be used to manage overwhelming emotions and sensory overload.
  • Session 2: The Hero Sensory Lab helps heroes understand and regulate their body’s response to sensory input (e.g., loud noises or bright lights). They’ll create their own Safe Zone Shields through grounding exercises and sensory-friendly activities. Badges earned: Safe Zone Shield Award.

5. Power-Up Nutrition for Heroes

Nutrition Therapy (1 session) – Super Fuel Training

Superpower: All Heroes

  • This session is about teaching heroes how to fuel their bodies with the right nutrition for their superpowers. Heroes will learn how different foods can boost their energy, help them concentrate, and calm their emotions.
  • They’ll create their own Super Fuel Meal Plans to enhance their focus, strength, and calm, learning to balance their superhero energy. Badges earned: Super Fuel Chef Badge.

6. Superpower Mind Training

CBT Therapy (2 sessions) – Focus Shields & Flexibility Force Field

Superpower: ADHD Heroes’ Super Speed Brain and OCD Heroes’ Superpower of Precision

  • Session 1: In Focus Shields Training, heroes will practice blocking out distractions by learning new concentration strategies. Heroes with Super Speed Brains will train to focus their rapid thoughts and use their powers for completing tasks and staying organized.
  • Session 2: In Flexibility Force Field Practice, heroes will learn techniques for adapting to change and moving between tasks. This session teaches them how to use their Force Field to avoid getting stuck on details and helps them find balance between precision and flexibility. Badges earned: Focus Master Badge.

7. Safety and Exposure Training

Exposure Therapy (1 session) – Safe Zone Mission

Superpower: PTSD and ASD Heroes’ Super Awareness

  • In this session, heroes will learn how to balance their Super Awareness by gradually facing environments or situations that feel overwhelming or trigger anxiety.
  • Heroes will use grounding techniques and create their Safe Zone Shields to protect themselves while learning how to safely explore new experiences and reduce their fears. Badges earned: Courage Shield Award.

8. Team Hero Training

Psychoeducation Therapy (with Parents) (1 session) – Hero Squad Communication

Superpower: All Heroes

  • Hero Squad Missions: Heroes and their parents will participate in teamwork challenges that help them practice clear communication and empathy. Heroes will use Super Communication Tools like social stories, role-playing, and boundary-setting exercises to explain their needs and superpowers to their parents.
  • Parents will learn how to support their child’s superhero journey, and together, they will strengthen their family’s Hero Team communication. Badges earned: Team Hero Trophy.

At the end of each month, heroes will celebrate their progress and earn badges and awards for the skills they’ve mastered. They’ll also take time to rest, recharge, and reflect on their superhero journey, gaining confidence and preparing for their next mission.
